The Eye of the Oracle is in pdf form and available with little work needed from the seeker. Once I had started reading it, I wasn’t sure why I hadn’t been selected to start with this Tower. It’s the closest to my current skillset and methods of practice. I know I’ve said that elsewhere, but it still holds.
I have a friend who isn’t interested in the Maergzjirah current at all. She’s aware of some of the controversies, mainly due to my researching them, but has no interest in the current itself (or much of anything in the Occult at present). But she was drawn to a few of the pds available in Europe. First Charnal Whispers, but she knew that wasn’t what was really of interest….to someone….certainly not her.
She came upon Eye of the Oracle and then after flipping through the various sigil, she sent me Astrael’s and said she KNEW that this interest was for me. She then washed her hands of it and went about her largely “muggle” life.
I can’t remember whether I had discussed reading Eye of the Oracle to her. I certainly presented the fantasy nonsense from Charnal Whispers, which is unusable to most magicians. It requires too many things (skills) not listed, isn’t usable as-is, and only hallucinations/delusions wait without the skills. Skills I can tell, but, frankly, don’t have. I won’t say ALL of it is fantasy, but a large chunk of it is and this becomes plain the further one goes along in the book. I’m getting a bit off topic, but the same skills that can be used in the Eye of the Oracle can show a practices reader that CW is largely dark emo larp circle jerking. /rant
At first, I was surprised to be called to pay Astrael a visit. I’m in frequent contact with Nykarleth, less so with Cernobog. And while I hadn’t been calling on her, I didn’t really understand why I was closed off enough that a secondary person had to relay the message. This isn’t the first time that has happened and won’t nearly be the last, but it didn’t make sense to me. Eventually, I figured out that the dual gateway to the Temples of Shadow and the Iron Throne ARE that selective and while I don’t have a bubble around me, which stifles growth longer-term, I can be so focused I tune things out.
The point is the message was heard and as I was going to call on her, I was reminded of a very specific part of the Eye of the Oracle text – thralls. There’s a lot I can say about that part of the text and how poorly I feel it conveys the point, but that isn’t what this post is about. And over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on that technique – practicing, reapplying, rinse and repeat. I don’t have concrete results yet, but am practicing as directed. And I’ve been told to revisit the text again.
I would like to say this – this current can be really dependent upon the connection with the entities. With the Thrall work, I’m being told to do it without. Maybe that’s so it will either work and I side-step moving beyond the need of the entity/current after achieving proficiency.
After all, isn’t that how the Gods work?
