Where Do You Stand, Norse?

There are a lot of causes that are worthy of our time and energy. Some generate more raw emotional responses in some people than other causes. But here, we’re not really talking so much about your local yarn making club or pineapple on pizza. We’re mainly talking about world events here and I have a pattern I follow with them. You may like it, you may not, but people wonder, so here it is.

I will follow any initial action with efforts to balance after that. During the whole event, I will cast for those hurting and bereaved on BOTH sides. I will also cast to try to help achieve a peace, typically inline with what existed and against what is trying to be taken or forced.

I typically favor the side of those attacked until that response is equal or excessive. If things turn excessive, I may shift to target the other sides leadership to start tempering. Then, I will shift towards balance and peace.

So, there you go. Those two paragraphs layout my approach towards most conflicts. Doesn’t have to be War or similar. I would do similar things with Politics, too. Maybe I should lay that out.

We typically agree that the majority should never be ruled by an elite minority, but this is typically very muddied in the murky world of business donations, also known as legal bribes, to politicians (thinking of the US here). The elites of business and both spectrums of politics are largely making the decisions with the system we have in place.

I simply look for the largest threads during political times and snip equal amounts. Unravel an equal number and/or the same strength. I don’t particularly care about the specifics of who and why. I can’t say I’ve been attacked by any person or group of sufficient strength to notice. While that has happened with World events, it hasn’t with politics. I typically don’t mess with other countries’ politics unless asked. If I don’t have to live with the consequences, should I really have a say? No, no I shouldn’t.

It can be tempting to get caught up in the excessive emotions people want you to feel – most of which mean nothing and do nothing to fix the problem. Yelling or being obnoxious creates negativity towards that interaction and the topic. If someone happens to cause issues for someone like me when doing it, they should expect some Life Smacks for infringing on my personal freedom.

I do encourage magicians to act on those causes they feel passionate about. I have led several groups/causes these past few years to try to make meaning change and help actually solve some of the issues, including suffering. I made some tea for a Epione last night that I let her come in and taste through me to help ease the suffering of those MANY places in the world where there is conflict. I called on Asherah to help ease the suffering in different ways in a more specific place. I’ve done other things, but this isn’t the place for that laundry.

I engage in world/national affairs and I encourage you to, too. Someone has to make the change happen as best they can to try to fix what we can, as we can. And we’re much more effective at it than a bunch of idiots stopping traffic and creating new enemies in other ways for our heartfelt causes.

I wouldn’t say to broadcast what you do, necessarily, unless you’re quite good at taking some magical hits and have actual experience dealing with other magicians that will and can smack you back. It can happen. So, until you want to deal with those type of people, I would suggest not talking about your workings, even if you talk about your support for those causes you’ve deemed worthy.

All the time I have for now. I was going to just type up a few paragraphs, but am trying to balance a quick read with substance. Guess we’ll find out if that worked or not.
