I’m not an expert in Yin Debt and all of the resources about it. What I did know was that I had to pay mine off if I wanted to have a shot at initiation within the Maoshan tradition. It’s also been called the debt for “repayment for life”, the “loan for life”, and there isn’t much on it. Very foreign concept to most Westerners, myself included. Frankly, I didn’t want to do it and wouldn’t have or done it this quickly if not for my interest in the Maoshan. It must be paid off for this.
It is a lot of work and while the “easy” route would be to pay a temple to do it for you, I don’t know any temples where that would be an option around here. Besides, it wouldn’t feel right for me personally to pay my way through that process. I have a friend that would, if it was reasonable. Both would cost money, but producing them, even just refolding them, costs a lot of time.
I did create a Yin Debt ingot post that illustrates the various methods I used to produce different types of ingots. Some with spray paint and heavy paper, mylar and heavy paper, and adjusting pre-folded ones from Ali Express. Some were faster than others, but I couldn’t really get the cost down, excluding the time factor, below that of the pre-folded ones from Ali Express.
I calculated my Yin Debt using Maoshan methods not available to the public. However, I did come across a public book that can help others figure theirs out. Internet Archive has the book The Taoist Experience: An Anthology. To quote from my post about on The Occult Mirror,

I would do 10% of the number and multiple it by two. I was born in the year of the snake. So, that would be 70000 = 7000 x 2 = 14,000. Using other methods, this was about what my Official debt was. It included payment for the transfer of the funds on my behalf, too.
My first 14000 was for the Official debt. The second 14000 is for my personal debt and I don’t know if that is specific to the school I’m pursuing or not.”

Having completed this, I can feel a notable shift with the entities in the Chinese pantheon I’m already working with. It will also open up the ability to provide a similar service for hire on Etsy for Ancestor offerings for other using some of these entities. Would’ve been a bit hypocritical of me to offer work in this area without having paid off ALL of my Yin-related debts.
